About The BPL

Design. Observe. Learn. Adapt.

The BPL is an applied framework for understanding and improving the environments in which people work, learn, receive care and interact. It brings together psychology, organisational behaviour, education, spatial design and real-world observation to connect human experience with the conditions around it.

People, activities, relationships and environments shape one another. The BPL treats these as parts of a connected system and asks how a setting can respond more effectively to the people using it.

The Business Psychology Lab brings a psychological perspective to everyday working life.
Its focus is on how organisational conditions shape people’s experiences at work.
Through writing, practical tools and open conversation, it connects psychological knowledge with real-world questions.
The Lab continues to develop, with care for evidence, context and the people involved.

What we explore

Across different projects, The BPL may develop resources, assess existing environments, support the design of spaces, and create ways to gather experience and feedback. Its work can include professional learning and applied research where an appropriate protocol and ethical conditions are in place.

Its areas of interest include education, healthcare, workplaces, wellbeing, community and public environments. Each application needs its own scope, evidence and review. Start with the healthcare book preview to explore a concrete example of the Lab’s work.

Our approach

The BPL connects scientific knowledge with practical use. It distinguishes between an idea informed by evidence, an observation made in practice and a finding established through research. Real use and feedback can inform how an environment or resource develops over time.

The aim is to create settings that support people more thoughtfully and can evolve through use, learning and responsible evaluation.
